Ruby on Rails Developer

A member of our programming team responsible for development and maintenance of Web applications in the Ruby on Rails development framework. This position designs, develops, troubleshoots, debugs, maintains and documents software code in support of the company''''s overall strategy. This includes both internal and customer-facing applications.

Our development philosophy is to write software correctly the first time, without shortcuts; to build reusable components whenever possible for use across all of our development projects; and to ensure that our existing code base is our biggest asset, rather than a liability. As a development department we hope to increase our involvement with the Rails community. One of our developers is heavily involved the ActiveScaffold project, and we plan for some of our internal tools to be released as viable projects of their own in the future.

Walla Walla is a beautiful city in the southeastern corner of Washington state. It is home to three colleges and a fast-growing wine industry, and is a great place for outdoor activities of all kinds. It''''s a wonderful place to live, work and play! Skills

Ruby on Rails experience in production Web applications
Strong object-oriented programming experience and practices
Model-View-Controller understanding and experience
Web application framework experience
SQL experience and good understanding of database schema design
Previous work shows understanding of the need for code resuse and components
Basic understanding of version control
Adoption of the underlying philosophy and methodology of the Ruby on Rails framework
Clean coding style
Good-to-excellent communication skills
